New for 2017

The start of every new CFC season is exciting, but 2017 is an extra-special year. This year, the highly anticipated changes to 5 CFR 950 go into effect and result in some fantastic advances to usher the CFC into a new era.

  • Retiree Giving: For the first time, Federal retirees will be able to continue to support their favorite charitable causes through the CFC via a deduction from their annuity.
  • Volunteerism: In addition to monetary pledges, CFC donors will be able to pledge their volunteer time to causes they care about in 2017. Hours pledged may be monetized and counted in department, agency and unit total dollars raised during this year's campaign. Volunteerism provides valuable work experience, builds meaningful community connections, and creates feelings of pride, loyalty, and engagement with charitable organizations.
  • Giving Portal: OPM has contracted with The Give Back Foundation (also known as the Central Campaign Administrator or CCA) to develop and deploy a one-stop, secure, user-friendly, web-based giving system. Donors will be able to complete a pledge with a few clicks with payroll allotments safely transferred to Federal finance systems automatically.
  • Charity Applications: The CCA also developed and deployed a new charity application portal which allowed international, national, and local charities to conveniently apply to participate in the 2017 CFC.
  • Promotional Days: The CFC will participate in four promotional days during the campaign to encourage engagement throughout the Federal community and make giving fun and meaningful: Kickoff Day (dependent on local campaign zones' official CFC start date) when the Federal community will celebrate the kickoff of the camapign; Show Some Love Day on November 2 where the Federal community will be asked to show and tell about their favorite charitable cause using a Cause Board; Giving Tuesday on November 28 where the Federal community will support this global day of online giving by making this the highest pledge day of the CFC; and International Volunteer Day on December 5 when Federal employees and retirees will be encouraged to donate their time by volunteering with a CFC-participating charity.
